Dad went in for his 2nd surgery around 1:00p.m. today. They were looking for a bile leak or something that was leaking that was causing him problems. When the doctor came out 4 hours later he was very relieved and glad that they decided to open him up again. My dad's doctor is pretty close with him and had been worried about him because his recovery time in the hospital was going slower then they expected. So, they knew that something was wrong. They were hesitant to open him up again due to the strain on his new liver but, things went really really well and they were so glad they decided to open him up. They found 2 pockets of infection but never found anything leaking. All of the doctors looked closely for any leaks and still could not find one. The infection had to come out and it was what was causing him so many problems. They think the infection came from 1 of 2 things, either he had a leak that has now healed itself and thus left infection behind or because he was opened up for 13 hours for the first surgery, infection got in somehow. So, they got all of the infection out and also found that his intestine was kinked and they fixed that. The kinked intestine was also causing him problems during recovery so they said that should be a lot better too. He also had a hernia that he got about 6 months ago and they fixed that as well. So, they said he should be good to go and the recovery should be a lot quicker. We all think it was the best thing to do, we are so grateful for these wonderful doctors who do such a great job! They will be my fathers friends for life! The doctors also said that they looked at the liver and it looks wonderful! All parts of the liver are functioning and healing perfectly, he couldn't have received a better liver!
I am so glad to hear. I have been thinking about him all day. I am so glad that you guys started this so we can keep up with everything. I am glad that everything went so well. Love you guys.
ReplyDeleteI agree. This blog has been great for our family. We update our kids every time there is news. (since news travels to Ca via the snail mail) We also has a friend of ours and their son who is 5 has been praying for your dad since we told his family a while ago. He now prays that the liver will heal.
